Mapping fluid properties to a 3D grid
For hydrocarbon volumetric calculations you must populate a 3D grid with properties from the fluid model. You can do this with the Fluid Model Grid Properties tool (model > Fluids > Tools > Output Tools). Before you use this tool you must have created a fluid model and a 3D grid to map it to, called the 'target grid'.
It is recommended that the structural model assigned to the fluid model is the same structural model as the one that was used to build the 'target grid', else mapping inconsistencies can occur. In other words, on the Fluids > Assign Boundaries form, the structural model (or, if you selected a 3D grid, the structural model used to build that 3D grid) is preferably the same structural model as the one used to build the 'target grid'.
To create fluid model grid properties
- Select the model you want to use from the Fluid model drop-down list.
- Select the 3D grid from the Target grid drop-down list.
- Click OK to map the fluid properties to the selected 3D grid and close the form, or click Apply to map the fluid properties to the selected 3D grid and keep the form open.
The properties will appear in the JewelExplorer under the Properties of the 3D grid in a folder named after the fluid model you selected. The properties include the gas, oil and water formation volume factors (Bg, Bo and Bw) as well as the cell volumes, fluid compartments, segments and zones. The fluid pressure, gas-oil ratio and height above free water level (HaFWL) are also available as the 3D grid properties. You can inspect these properties in the 3D View.
If your fluid model consists of paleo free water level, the paleo properties are also mapped to the selected 3D grid. The 3D grid properties includes cell volume paleo zone, paleo free water level, height above paleo free water level. The existing 3D grid properties including the fluid model properties, if any, are also updated to account for the hydrocarbon in the paleo zone.
Additionally, the Fluid Regions 3D grid property is also updated as Reservoir-Paleo Region to represent the different classes in case of paleo fluid model. The extra region classes for paleo fluid model includes Paleo, Reservoir/Paleo, Paleo/Non-Pay and Reservoir/Paleo/Non-Pay, which can be used for QC, statistical analysis and volumetric reporting of paleo zones.
